Just so you know, i didnt make this. i got it from a friend on LJ and made some changes in the answers. not all were edited, though:
+Where did you learn about Dir en grey?
hm...from what i can remember, i kept reading about them online while trying to find gackt/malice mizer stuff. i think the first member i saw was kaoru. my first thought was 'wow......nice hair XD'
+What initially attracted you to the band?
i think i can honestly say it was their music. i had heard stuff before and i really liked kyo's voice. it was a few months after that i actually say a PV [cage] and from there i was hooked ^-^
+What keeps you a fan of the band?
the fact that they can always surprise. i love the turn that they are taking with their music[not that it was bad back in the 90's]. its getting better, not worse.
and despite what ppl may think, its not because of their looks[though i'd be lying if i said they werent hott ^_~], i mean, they are good-looking, but looks arent everything.
+Which album is your favorite and why?
as of now its Macabre. so many music styles in it.from Myaku to Berry, its a great album. especially the title track to the album, Macabre.
+What did you think of Dir en grey’s sound in the beginning of their career?
great! not what i was expecting (since i went from cage/taiyo no ao to withering to death), but i still loved it! songs like jealous(inverse) and akuro no oka always make me tear up
+What do you think of their sound now?
mind-blowing!geez! i mean, i love clever sleazoid. and the pledge!? awsome!!!!!!! i really dont understand why people stopped being their fans because of this. its really good music ^-^
+Who is your favorite member and why?
its hard to choose, really. firsted i liked kyo, then die, then kaoru, and now toshiya. so...i guess you can say i dont have a favorite.
they all contribute to what makes dir en grey...dir en grey!!!
+What do you think of each member and their ability to play/sing? (note: i didnt edit this. after reading it...well...y'know...just read it ^-^)
Kyo: His ability to capture the mindsets and inner personalities of his fellow human beings in words is incredible. His powerful voice having the ability to sound like a scream, a cry, and an orgasm all in one is just indescribible. But what I find most intriguing is his personality off stage and sans stage persona. What I wouldn't give to spend 1 day in his head and see what he sees, what he thinks, and how he really feels.
Kaoru: Isn't he just cool? His guitar skills are so rad. He like the nerdiest guy who happens to be the coolest guitarist. Seriously. And he's so funny to watch! He also writes some really great music and he has cool remixing skills.
Die: If I could choose anyone to give me guitar lessons it would be this man right here. He's sexy, has a beautiful smile, and such a wonderful personality. But what gets me most is his completely serious stage nature and guitar playing. I perfer his guitaring to Kaoru's for some reason but I perfer Kaoru's songs to his. I dunno, its just weird.
Toshiya: I used to never really like this guy outside of PVs and lives. He always came off as stupid to me. But he is the sole reason for me wanting to play bass. He's come a long way from what I used to think. He's cute and sweet and dare I say, sexy. And on stage he dominates. His bass playing is just god like.
Shinya: Aww our little baby is now a man! I wonder if he ever did that interview where he said he would reveal all his secrets at 30? Anyways, why is Shinya great? He's surpassed Yoshiki. I've never seen any drummer play the way he does. And he's so mysterious and cool. And of course we all love to see him smile which he seems to do more of lately! Shinya is now the god of drumming!
+Do you prefer their older music or their newer music? Why?
i cant really choose. i really really like -i'll-, but i also really really like concieved sorrow and ryoujoku no ame.
+Which do you prefer in terms of image: Visual Kei Dir en grey or their current style? Why?
current style, i suppose. dresses are nice, but if they are comfortable in what they are in, thats nice, too
+Are their any issues with the language barrier?
personally? yes. but thats because im still learning the language. but that doesnt mean i dont understand whats going on. lyrics are one thing, but the music is another
+What do you think of the lyrics (if you understand them)?
eh....hahaha. thats a good question. im not sure how to answer it.
XD
uh...when i first heard Mushi, i didnt understand what he was saying, though i still found myself crying when it was over. then i found out what he was saying...and CRAP do i cry now XD
but when it comes to those kinds like Filth or berry...i kinda get...happy?
i dunno...all songs tell a story of their own.
+What do you think separates Dir en grey from the other bands/what makes them and their music unique?
im not...sure if i can actually...put it into words. i can honestly say ive never heard music like theirs come from other bands. its very unique. and when they perform...DAMN can they put on a show!
+What do you think of their live performances? Do they sound better or worse live?
depeneds on the song. umbrella always seems to come out nice, but obscure...im not too sure on that one...
+What do you think of the Dir en grey fanbase (what do you like and dislike)?
if the people honestly like them for their music, then great. but lately...ive been seeing alot of...'kyo is the smex god' and 'kyo is so f***ing hott and sexy'.
i wish people would stop with that.
true, kyo is good eye-candy, but can you really say that you love him!? when you havent even met him!?
he wants people to think he is a cool, scary man, but is he really!? do you know for sure what kind of person he is!?
dir en grey is more than just kyo.
its kaoru
its shinya
its die
and its toshiya
if all you want is some small, blonde, bloody asian guy, then stop buying their cd's!
besides, kyo has said so himself that he doesnt want people to like dir en grey for their image/personality
"Kyo - Yes. But the good and bad feedbacks are half-and-half. I think this is a good thing. To be honest, don't I always say that "Fans are important to us!" ? It's like, "Without the fans, there won't be us". However I always muse if this is right. The pace at which we changed visually and musically are both very rapid, some fans liked our earlier music, and there are those who only liked our present style. Of course, the fans who don't like us will disappear; but on the other hand the fans who liked the present us increases. However, there are old fans who don't like our present music, but they still attended our lives because they like our visual aspects and our personality. I think those fans can stop coming. Even though this might seem very cold, but we exist because of the music, so I hope you could all get to know Dir en grey through music, it's already enough."
+Why do you think Dir en grey has such a strong following in America?
beats me. all i can say is its because the have good music.
+When did you start liking Dir en grey [the year]? How long would that make you a fan?
uh...2004? i think. so that makes 3 years.
+Are you very defensive about Dir en grey (if someone insults their music/[older]image, are you up in arms about it)? Why or why not?
if you say you dont like it, fine. but be ready to back it up with a reason.
if you say 'ugh! i hate this! i cant understand what they are saying! its stupid!' then shut up! if youre too stupid to get your ass of a bad and learn a language, then thats your shit. but dont put down their music because youre lazy.
but if you say 'i dont think its good music. i personally dont like rock.' or 'i dont like his vocals', then thats fine. because thats a good reason.
well, thats my opinion...
+Do you consider their music to be an influence/inspiration in your daily life?
yeah.
hell, after hearing kasumi and mushi, ive learned to look at life in a whole new way.
my dad doesnt like me to listen to them because he found the lyrics to the final on my computer and thought that if i kept hearing things like this, i'd kill myself. but its not true. the final showed me what its like to lose someone you really love. but...suicide...its all in the person mind. if you think yo can go through with it, then do it. but i dont think i could ever do something like that.
ever.
+What bothers you about Dir en grey (what do you dislike)? [Please be thorough]
its great that they are into their music, but i think they deserve some time to themselves. they work WAY to hard.
and kyo. sadistic, sad kyo. really...i love the fact that he can make himself bleed and not show any pain in the process. but i worry one day he might go too far.
+What do you enjoy about Dir en grey (what do you like)? [Again, please be thorough]
(note: didnt edit this, either)
I like how they don't take crap from anyone, like when they officially changed their image. Lots backlash there. I love their pride that dominates shows and albums. They are just all around fabulous. I enjoy most though, is how they keep things coming at their own pace, not affraid to step on toes or backtrack because someone doesn't like them.
(note: i thought i should keep this in, too.)
- If you friend me, could you please tell me why you are doing so? Failure to do so will result in you being ignored.
- We can be friends if you are not easily offended.
- I love Asian music. Dir en grey is my favorite band. If you hate them and like to talk bad about them. Do not friend me. If you are a fan and can talk about their bad points and make fun of them, friend me.
